Women of all ages may have concerns about their appearance of their genital area, but often feel embarrassed and not sure where to turn for help. Dr. Yarinsky has over 25 years of experience performing labiaplasties, one of the most popular procedures at our practice. As a result, he is considered one of the top plastic surgeons in Saratoga Springs to perform labiaplasty. At your consultation, Dr. Yarinsky will address your concerns and answer all your questions. Your labiaplasty will be performed safely and reliably right at our accredited facility for your privacy, comfort, convenience and cost savings over the hospital setting.

What Is Labiaplasty?

Many women are troubled by excessive tissue or skin in the pubic area, specifically to the labia minora, or inner lips. This condition, whether inherited or the result of childbirth, may cause discomfort, irritation, chronic wetness and a rash when riding a bike and performing other exercise. Drying of the skin can cause chafing and tenderness or pain when inserting tampons or having sexual intercourse. The prominence of the labia may cause women to feel self-conscious and unwilling to wear a bathing suit, snug shorts or yoga pants due to labia visibility through their clothing.

Labiaplasty reduces the labia minora in size so that they are flush (even) with or hidden within the outer lips named labia majora. Dr. Steven Yarinsky uses the same procedure designed by Dr. Gary Alter, as seen on Doctor 90210. This procedure, which takes an hour or two, is done using local or general anesthesia, depending on patient preference, right at our office facility. There is minimal discomfort after the procedure. Dr. Yarinsky uses absorbable sutures to eliminate the need for suture removal.

Dr. Yarinsky’s labiaplasty patients have reported that pretreatment discomfort caused by labia size and skin chafing is eliminated with the procedure. The discomfort they have experienced with sexual intercourse also disappears. Our patients report that the results of their labiaplasty enhance their confidence and self-esteem.*

Who Is a Good Candidate for Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty may be for you if you are bothered by large labia minora (the more delicate inner lips) that protrude beneath your labia majora (larger outer lips). Grossly enlarged labia can interfere with sexual intercourse, are frequently irritated by daily activities and can be a hygiene problem because of perpetual wetness or dryness. Some women are self-conscious that the prominent skin is obvious while wearing a bathing suit, ballerina tights, or other form-fitting clothing. Some women complain that their large long labia make intercourse uncomfortable or difficult. This is because the friction of intercourse causes the labia minora to be drawn into the vagina or to become irritated, swollen and tender for days thereafter. Unfortunately many patients who have had this discomfort are too embarrassed to inquire about this corrective surgery.

What Are the Benefits of Labiaplasty?

Trimming the labia minora so that they are even with the outer larger labia majora diminishes functional and aesthetic problems. Dr. Yarinsky’s technique does not cause numbness or loss of sensation to the area, and the scars are nearly invisible. Our patients have been very pleased with the results! They are able to resume their activities without further embarrassment or skin irritation. What was a cause for concern and consternation becomes a non-issue.

How Is the Labiaplasty Procedure Performed?

The procedure is done at our Joint Commission accredited office surgery center for your convenience, comfort and privacy using local or general anesthesia, depending on your request. There is no need to go to the hospital. Using a technique developed by Dr. Alter, the long labia minora (inner lips) are carefully trimmed and contoured to be even with the outer labia. Uneven labia minora can be made more symmetrical. Absorbable sutures are placed and antibiotic ointment is applied. There is usually no need for suture removal, since after several weeks they dissolve and fall out on their own.

What Is Labiaplasty Recovery Like?

You must take oral antibiotics as prescribed and continue local wound care applying antibiotic ointment daily until healed. Most activities can be resumed within a week or two. Exercises that put pressure on the groin region such as biking, tampon use, sexual intercourse and submerging the treated area in water (i.e. swimming, bathtub, and hot tub use) must be avoided for about 6-8 weeks. Any discomfort is well controlled with oral medication and typically is gone within a few days to a week.

“Dr. Yarinsky & Staff, Thank you so much for the great care and concern extended to me during every visit to your office. Most importantly the day of & day after surgery. It certainly meant a great deal to me. I realized just the other day I finally feel ‘Complete’! Thank you just isn’t enough! Sincerely & Completely,

B.P..

How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost?

Since every woman has unique needs, and the procedure is customized to alleviate their concerns, the cost of labiaplasty will vary for each patient. While there is no fixed price, the average cost of labiaplasty typically begins at $3,500, which includes the surgeon’s fees. The total cost of labiaplasty may differ depending on a number of factors, including the surgical technique used, complexity of the procedure, expertise of the surgeon, and geographic location of the practice. The only way to receive a personalized quote is to schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon. During your appointment with Dr. Yarinsky, he will provide you with a written labiaplasty quote which lists all included fees. Should you desire or need financial assistance for covering your procedure, our practice offers plastic surgery financing options to divide your cost into smaller, more manageable monthly payments.

Are There Any Risks to Labiaplasty?

As with any surgery, labiaplasty does have some degree of risk. Possible complications of the procedure which are quite rare at our practice include pain, temporary numbness, hematoma, and infection. Our patients have never experienced sensation loss using Dr. Yarinsky’s labiaplasty technique. Dr. Yarinsky is highly experienced in performing a variety of labiaplasty procedures and prioritizes patient safety at every stage. He will thoroughly explain the benefits as well as risks of undergoing labiaplasty, helping you to make an informed decision so you feel comfortable about your care. Dr. Yarinsky appreciates and encourages your questions and will provide you with answers at any time throughout your labiaplasty journey. He also urges labiaplasty patients to contact him personally if they are ever concerned about developing a complication during the healing process. Dr. Yarinsky will go over detailed post-operative care instructions with you to ensure that you understand what to expect and how to minimize your risk of complications throughout your recovery.

Complementary Procedures and Labiaplasty Alternatives

Some women are also bothered by excessive fatty tissue in the larger labia majora, or pubic mound (lower abdomen). The excessive fat can be easily treated and reduced with liposuction to contour the groin area. Some women have lost volume in their labia majora – the outer lips – with weight loss and the aging process. Volume can be replaced with a filler like RADIESSE® or with fat transfer injections.

For those interested in a non-surgical treatment for stretched or weakened vaginal canal and internal vagina or external labial tissue, Dr. Yarinsky offers ThermiVa® – a brand new state-of-the-art temperature-controlled technology that emits radiofrequency energy through a small handpiece. Utilizing this advanced procedure, patients can improve the shape, comfort, and sensitivity of their intimate area. Stress incontinence may be also effectively treated. In addition, ThermiVa® can increase moisture and comfort during intercourse to effectively treat dryness which occurs with menopause and after receiving hormone therapy for breast cancer.

Please contact our practice for more information on labiaplasty, or to schedule a consultation with Dr. Yarinsky. The specific risks and suitability of this procedure for you can be determined only at the time of your consultation with Dr. Yarinsky. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are unusual. Most women are very happy with the result of labiaplasty, but no specific results can be guaranteed.
