truSculpt™ Versus Liposuction for Fat Removal
Liposuction is often considered a body sculpting staple and has proven extremely effective at treating stubborn fat. Traditional liposuction uses incisions at the target area to gain access to the unwanted fat cells and then breaks them down with a cannula (thin tube with a hole in the tip) and suction system. At Saratoga Springs Plastic Surgery, PC, we use a special liposuction technique called LipoPerfection®, which utilizes shorter incisions and smaller cannulas. As a result, patients typically experience improved post-operative comfort and an abbreviated recovery time. However, if you have mild to moderate areas of diet and exercise resistant fat and are seeking a noninvasive method of reducing stubborn, excess fat, truSculpt™ may be appropriate for your needs.
With truSculpt™ there are no incisions, no surgery, and no downtime. Using a handheld device that is placed on the surface of the skin, radiofrequency (RF) energy is transmitted below the skin’s surface. The heat from this RF pulse can strategically damage the targeted fat cells without harming the healthy surrounding tissues. As your body’s metabolic process takes over, these damaged fat cells are absorbed and exit the body naturally, *It usually takes at least 2 or 3 monthly sessions to reach a plateau. *You can begin to notice the results from your truSculpt™ treatment about four weeks after your sessions. *After twelve weeks, you should see the full results and your more youthful, contoured silhouette. Additional treatment sessions after the initial 3 monthly treatments can also be scheduled to maximize your final outcome.
*Individual Results May Vary

Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Liposuction?

Many of our patients at Saratoga Springs Plastic Surgery, PC are diligent with their diet and exercise regimes yet still struggle with areas of stubborn fat that are resistant to these efforts. The most commonly affected areas of the body include:
- Abdomen
- Hips and Lower Back
- Bra Fat (mid-back)
- Upper Arms
- Buttocks
- Thighs
- Inner Knees
- Calves
- Neck and Jawline
If you are ready to address these troublesome areas and attain a more toned and sculpted figure, liposuction is an effective solution that can help you achieve your goals. Since this procedure typically delivers dramatic results with minimal recovery time, liposuction is one of the most popular body procedures among our patients. In addition, our LipoPerfection® external ultrasound-assisted technique can reduce your overall downtime, increase your comfort during recovery, and ultimately provide you with smoother contours compared to traditional liposuction techniques.
Ideal candidates for liposuction will be at or near their ideal weight, with less than 10 or 20 pounds of excess subcutaneous fat isolated in the above “problem areas” that has proven resistant to traditional weight loss methods such as diet and exercise. The best candidates also have good skin elasticity and skin tone in the areas to be treated. Though liposculpture may be used to successfully contour the figure of a heavier patient, it is important to remember that liposuction is not intended to treat obesity or achieve major weight loss. During the consultation process, a physical exam, comprehensive review of your medical history, and conversation about your surgical expectations will help us determine if you are an ideal candidate for liposuction.
